Inspection: Suggested Equipment: Distilled Water, Googles & Rubber gloves. Always wear protective clothing when handling batteries
Inspection Guide Lines:
Look for cracks in the container
- The top of batteries, post and conections should be clean, free of dir, fluids & corrosion. If batteries are dirty, refer to Cleaning section for proper cleaning procedures.
- Repair or replace any damaged batteries.
- Any fluids on or around the batteries may bean indication that electrolyte is spilling, leaching or leaking out.
- Leaking batteries must be repaired or replaced.
Check all Battery cables and their connections:
- Look closely for loose or damaged parts.
- Battery cables should be intact, broken or frayed cables can be extremely hazardous.
- Replace any cable that looks suspicious.
Tighten wiring connections with proper specifications. Make certain of good contact with the terminals:
Specification: LPT - 95- 105 in-lbs Requires special inch/ pound torque wrench. WARNING: Do not overtighten terminals. Doing so can result in post breakage, post meltdown or fire.
WATERING:
- Plates must be covered BEFORE charging, do not let plates be expos«l to air.
- Do not top up batteries until AFTER charging, too full can cause corrosive damage.
- Use distilled or deionized water ONLY, do not use high mineral content water.
- Avoid contact with battery water/acid as it can damage material and burn skin.
- Step one: Open vent caps and look inside the fill wells before charging.
- Step two: Check electrolyte level, minimum level is at the top of the plates.
- Step Three: Add just enough water to cover the plates at this time.
- Step Four: Put batteries on complete charge before adding water.
- Step Five: Once charging is complete, open vent caps and look inside the wells.
- Step Six: Add water so level is 1/8" below bottom of fill well.
- Step Seven: Check the water/acid level using wooden popsicle stick as a dip stick.
- Step Eight: Clean, replace and tighten all vent caps.
CLEANING:
- Check all vent caps are tightly in place
- Clean tops of batteries with cloth, brush and a solution of baking soda and water
- When cleaning do not allow any cleaning solution or foreign matter inside batteries
- Rinse with water and dry with cloth.
